Black Friday

The origin of Black Friday

The first recorded use of the term “Black Friday” was applied not to holiday shopping but to financial crisis: specifically, the crash of the U.S. gold market on September 24, 1869. Two notoriously ruthless Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, worked together to buy up as much as they could of the nation’s gold, hoping to drive the price sky-high and sell it for astonishing profits.
On that Friday in September, the conspiracy finally unraveled, sending the stock market into free-fall and bankrupting everyone from Wall Street barons to farmers.

The most commonly repeated story behind the post-Thanksgiving shopping-related Black Friday tradition links it to retailers.
As the story goes, after an entire year of operating at a loss (“in the red”) stores would supposedly earn a profit (“went into the black”) on the day after Thanksgiving, because holiday shoppers blew so much money on discounted merchandise.
Though it’s true that retail companies used to record losses in red and profits in black when doing their accounting, this version of Black Friday’s origin is the officially sanctioned—but inaccurate—story behind the tradition. For More info on the origin click here!

Even the crowds at open Markets can become overwhelming.

Would you rather fight the crowds as in the above pictures to get the items your hoping to give away? And in the process receive injuries from ‘black-and-blues’ to broken bones! Or stand in line for hours to wait for the retailers doors to open and then get run over by the waiting crowds? As can be seen in the Pictures below:

And when its all over and you’re finished ‘shopping’ you still have not found the item(s) you wanted!

Well Folks I have a better idea: Shop from or in your favorite Chair in the comfort of your Home! There’ll be NO CROWDS to fight and get trampled by, you can shop at your leisure, order whatever, whenever you’re ready, and best of all, have it delivered right to your door! And if you’re not fond of wrapping all these gifts, some merchants even offer Gift Wrapping so that all that is left for you to do is get the gifts out of the shipping box and put them under the Tree. If you have relatives, kids living elsewhere you can even play Santa Claus and have your Gifts delivered to THEIR address!

Here are a few retailers I recommend for your shopping from home convenience:

It’s a frantic but, for the most part, happy time of the year. I for one am of the opinion that shopping in a huge crowd is not for me. Although I realize that Black Friday crowd shopping has become a tradition for some to the point where they will camp out at the entrance to retailers to await the opening of the doors.

And that Folks is “WhatIThink”!!! Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
